Some weddings are made by their setting, and some are simply held by it. On the west coast of Mauritius, where the Indian Ocean turns from turquoise to gold as the afternoon softens, we filmed Noor and Ahmed's celebration at Sugar Beach that belonged completely to the island.
We travelled to Mauritius to film the day the way we film everywhere, unobtrusively and editorially, letting the real moments lead. The light on that coastline does a great deal of the work, so our job was restraint: to hold the quiet as well as the joy, the ocean behind the vows, the warmth of a celebration a long way from home.
A beach wedding asks for a particular kind of filming. Wind, bright sand and moving water are unforgiving if you are not ready for them, and beautiful when you are. We shot for the whole arc of the day, from the slow, sunlit morning to the last of the evening, and cut it into a film the couple can return to for the rest of their lives.
This is the highlight film from their day. Press play, and let the island take you back.
Thank you, Noor and Ahmed, for letting us tell your story somewhere this beautiful.
