The Cape Winelands do a great deal of the work before a camera is ever lifted. At Molenvliet, vineyards run toward the mountains, oaks throw long afternoon shadows, and the light turns honey-gold as the day softens. It was the setting for Raymond and Thilisha's wedding, and it gave the film a warmth that runs right through it.
We filmed unobtrusively and editorially, as we always do, letting the estate and the day share the frame. Our job was to hold the real moments, the quiet before, the joy of the ceremony, the warmth of a Winelands celebration, and to stay out of the way while they happened.
From the slow morning to the last dance, we shot the whole arc of the day and cut it with care over the weeks that followed, so what remains feels exactly like the day it was.
