Africa films differently. The light is bigger, the horizons wider, and a wedding held here carries a sense of space you feel the moment you arrive. We travelled to Zambia to film Gaurav and Tanikka's celebration, and the country gave the day a grandeur no studio could manufacture.
We filmed unobtrusively and editorially, as we always do, letting the real moments lead and the landscape hold them. Our job was to stay out of the way and catch the day as it actually unfolded, the quiet before, the joy of the ceremony, the warmth of a family gathered somewhere far from the everyday.
A destination wedding in Africa rewards patience and preparation in equal measure. We shot for the whole arc of it and cut it with care, so that what remains is not a travelogue but a film about two people, held by an extraordinary place.
