Couples often assume that a longer wedding film means a better one. The instinct makes sense - more of the day must be more to watch. In our experience it is almost always the opposite. The films that get watched again, that hold up at one year and five years and twenty, are almost never the longest versions.
The most common deliverables in luxury wedding filmmaking are a short highlight film (three to five minutes), a feature film (eight to twelve minutes), and a ceremony/speeches cut (unedited or lightly trimmed). Most couples we film end up watching the feature film the most.
Why shorter tends to win is not a mystery. A tight film respects the viewer. It keeps only what earns its place. It leaves out the fifth toast that went too long, the cake cut that felt staged, the arrival shot that was already in the highlight reel. What remains is what matters.
That said, a good filmmaker does not treat length as a rule. Some weddings carry ten minutes gracefully and others want fifteen. The length should come from the material, not from a pricing tier.
Our recommendation, if we are asked directly, is to commission a feature film of eight to twelve minutes plus an unedited ceremony and speeches cut for the archive. The feature film is the thing you rewatch. The archive is the thing you are glad exists when you want to hear the exact wording of a vow, or the middle of a toast you only half-heard on the day.
